Ish Goel’s debut young adult novel is The Black Orchids. She has loved to read since her childhood and is a big fan of romantic fantasy novels. She is currently a student, works part-time, and is working on her next book. You can find her on Instagram, Twitter, her website, Facebook, and Goodreads.
What was the inspiration for The Black Orchids?
My inspiration came from the large collection of fantasy romance novels and movies I have discovered over the years. Some of the books I read inspired me, the depth of emotions and meaningful messages a novel can convey are extraordinary. Additionally, the ability to be able to transport your reader to another world, engrossed by the characters in the books and their adventures is something I have always admired. I wanted to one day be able to do the same for the readers of my novel but I find having unexpected twists more thrilling to read so have incorporated a sense of mystery and suspense into my novel ‘The Black Orchids’ as well.
What are you currently working on?
I am presently trying to build awareness of my novel The Black Orchids by reaching as many readers as possible. Additionally, I am also looking to start a second romance novel and hope to incorporate elements of a psychological thriller in this one but will see how it progresses as new ideas are added to the growing plot line.
Why did you decide to become an indie writer?
I believe that becoming an indie author gives you more freedom and control over your work, although I have not tried traditional publishing yet which could perhaps give you similar liberties. Moreover, I feel it is a great way for my readers to really get to know my writing style and connect with them on a more personal level as I promote my book, heed their advice and receive my feedback. Due to my hectic schedule of balancing university, a part time job and writing, I find having the ability to self publish is a lot easier.
Why did you decide to go exclusive with Amazon?
Currently I am exclusive with Amazon as I wanted to see if joining the KDP select program draws in more readers, however, in the future I would like to branch out into other platforms such as iBooks, Kobo, etc and even have physical copies to reach a wider audience!
What have your marketing strategies been?
I am very new to publishing and have so far only marketed through social media such as Instagram but I am open to hearing more suggestions on what other writers have discovered worked well for them and where the readers discover their books from.
How to support Indie Writers!
Support indie writers by not only buying their books, but also leaving reviews. More so than traditionally published authors, indie writers depend on reviews. Help indie stories find their homes. Thank you and peace and joy to you!
